Batch run lifecycle overview
Typically, a batch run progresses through six Stages from creation to batch release:
Created > Planned > In Progress > Completed (Awaiting Review) > Review Complete > Released
If necessary, a batch run can also be placed in a temporary On Hold stage or a permanent Aborted stage from certain stages rather than progressing.
Accessing batch run stage information
To access a batch run, click cloud Tempo > Batches > Runs, then locate or start a batch run.
From any page within the batch run, users can review the run's current stage and next step in a quick reference card displayed near the top right corner of the page.
Users can take action on the batch run by clicking the quick reference card. A Batch Run Stages and Actions dialog that includes all available next steps displays.
Each batch run stage and available next steps from that stage are described in the sections below:
Created
Each batch run begins in the Created stage.
While the batch is in the Created stage, a web app user can:
- Update parameter values on the Parameters tab.
- Update batch-run-specific configurations like Allow Batch Run Modification and Enable redlining for all procedures within this batch on the Information tab.
- Update batch run information like the start date, end date, campaign, and location on the Information tab.
- Assign users for batch execution on the Assign tab. (Batch execution is only available during the In Progress stage.)
- Add documents or replace placeholders on the Documents tab.
- Print a batch run report or add a tag to the batch run using the buttons near the upper right of the batch run page.
To lock parameter values and batch-run-specific configurations and plan the batch run, complete the following steps:
- Click the Next Step (right) section of the batch run quick reference card, then click Lock and Plan.
- Enter your system Email, Password (or PIN), and a Comment, then click Submit.
- If enabled, the system-level Require 2nd signature to lock and plan a batch run setting requires a signature from a second individual with access to the batch run before the batch run can progress to the Planned stage. Review the Configuring Settings & Permissions article for more information about this setting.
- A batch run can be aborted at any point during this stage. To abort a batch run, click the batch run quick reference card, then click Abort batch.
Planned
Once a batch run has been locked, it progresses to the Planned stage.
While the batch is in the Planned stage, a web app user can:
- Update batch run information like the start date, end date, campaign, and location on the Information tab.
- Assign users for batch execution on the Assign tab. (Batch execution is only available during the In Progress stage.)
- Add documents or replace placeholders on the Documents tab.
- Print a batch run report or add a tag to the batch run using the buttons near the upper right of the batch run page.
To send the batch run to execution, complete the following steps:
- Click the Next Step (right) section of the batch run quick reference card, then click Send to Execution.
- Enter your system Email, Password (or PIN), and a Comment, then click Submit.
A batch run can be placed on hold or aborted at any point during this stage.
- To place a batch run on hold, click the batch run quick reference card, then click Put on Hold.
- To abort a batch run, click the batch run quick reference card, then click Abort batch.

- Add documents or replace placeholders on the Documents tab.
- Print a batch run report or add a tag to the batch run using the buttons near the upper right of the batch run page.

- Add documents or replace placeholders on the Documents tab.
- Approve exceptions on the Exceptions tab.
- Print a batch run report or add a tag to the batch run using the buttons near the upper right of the batch run page.
In order to progress to the next stage, all exceptions must be approved, all required documents must be uploaded, and each completed procedure run within the batch run must be approved. To view a specific procedure run in a separate browser tab, click the Summary tab, then click the more_horiz More Options icon next to any procedure name and click Procedure Run.
To confirm the completion of review, complete the following steps:
- Click the Next Step (right) section of the batch run quick reference card, then click Review.

Released
Once a batch run is in the Released stage, no further changes can be made to the batch run.
While the batch is in the Released stage, a web app user can print a batch run report using the button near the upper right of the batch run page.
On Hold
A batch run can be placed on hold from the Planned, In Progress, Completed (Awaiting Review), and Review Complete stages.
If an In Progress batch run is placed on hold, the system automatically places all of the batch run's procedures on hold and blocks execution.
The options available to web app users while a batch run is in the On Hold stage depend upon the specific stage the batch run had reached and whether the Allow Batch Run Modification setting is disabled or enabled on the batch run.
If the batch run Allow Batch Run Modification setting is disabled or the batch run has previously been placed in the Review Complete stage, a web app user can:
- Update batch run information like the start date, end date, campaign, and location on the Information tab.
- Assign users for batch execution on the Assign tab. (Batch execution is only available during the In Progress stage.)
- Add documents or replace placeholders on the Documents tab.
- Print a batch run report or add a tag to the batch run using the buttons near the upper right of the batch run page.
If the batch run Allow Batch Run Modification setting is enabled and the batch run has never been placed in the Review Complete stage, a web app user can:
- Add procedures and unit operations to the batch run on the Operations tab.
- Update parameter values on the Parameters tab.
- Mark procedures as not applicable from the procedure run more_horiz More Options icon on the Operations tab.
To remove the hold on the batch run, complete the following steps:
- Click the Next Step (right) section of the batch run quick reference card, then click Resume.
- Enter your system Email, Password (or PIN), and a Comment, then click Submit.
- In almost every case, the Resume button returns the batch run to its previous stage. In the following case, the Resume button returns the batch run to the In Progress stage: The batch run is placed on hold from the Completed (Awaiting Review) stage, the Allow Batch Run Modification setting is enabled, and a procedure was added to the batch run while on hold.
- A batch run can be aborted at any point during this stage. To abort a batch run, click the batch run quick reference card, then click Abort batch.
Aborted
Once a batch run is in the Aborted stage, no further changes can be made to the batch run.
While the batch is in the Aborted stage, a web app user can print a batch run report using the button near the upper right of the batch run page.
