The exception functionality within the Tempo Manufacturing Cloud enables organizations to determine the next steps for critical value, process issue, and non-conformance reviews in real time.

The specific handling for exceptions within an organization's system are determined by configuration settings at both the system level and the procedure template level. Exceptions are triggered automatically based upon these configurations and display for review on a central Exceptions page, as well as on the Exceptions tab of a procedure or batch run.

  • For more information about exception configuration settings at the system level, review the Configuring Exceptions article.
  • For more information about exception configuration settings at the procedure template level, review the Template Exceptions Settings section of the Creating a Procedure Template article.
    NOTE:

In the event that a specific exception type has been configured to block execution at the procedure template level, those exceptions must be approved before operators can continue procedure or batch run execution.

This article covers the following topics:

PREREQUISITE:

In order to approve an exception, an individual must both:

  • have a role that allows access to approve exceptions (that is, Supervisory, Quality, or System Admin)
  • be assigned as an exception approver from the Approval Users or Approval Teams list, which is set by a System Admin via settings Platform > settings Configuration > Exceptions > Exception Approvals.

Note that individuals cannot approve exceptions that they triggered.

TERMINOLOGY NOTE:
Exceptions are separate from, but can be triggered by, overrides that occur during procedure execution. Exceptions and overrides are separate features and have separate approval workflows.

For additional information about overrides and override approvals, review the Understanding & Approving Overrides in a Procedure Run article.
