Overview
Apprentice offers customers the option to bring their own devices (BYOD) instead of using Apprentice-managed devices. This ensures that each device is appropriately configured to meet customer needs.
Considerations for BYOD
Before opting for BYOD, customers should evaluate the following:
Apple Business Manager (ABM) Account: If your organization has an ABM account, BYOD is recommended.
Manufacturing Schedule: A structured schedule benefits from BYOD for consistency.
Compliance Standards: Ensure external device policies align with regulatory requirements.
Network Configuration: Assess how employees access internal networks and log in.
Device Allocation: Determine the number of devices per environment.
*** Environment Types examples**:
* DEV – Authoring and testing new procedures.
* VAL – Validation purposes.
* PROD – Manufacturing processes.
Pre-requisites
To ensure optimal performance and compliance, the following requirements must be met:
- Devices must be Apple iPad Pro (11-inch preferred).
- If required, select a clean-room certified case.
- Devices must be purchased through the ABM e-Commerce Portal.
- The organization must have a registered ABM business account.
- WiFi connectivity and camera access are mandatory.
Process for Setting up the APP on your Devices
1. Customer Actions
Provide Apprentice with the following ABM organization settings:
- Organization ID
- Legal name (exact as per ABM settings, including punctuation)
Ensure ABM is set to receive custom applications.
Verify that Customer MDM supports application configuration.
2. Apprentice ActionsPush the Tempo App directly to the Customer ABM.
Customers follow their normal app deployment process via their MDM.
Future APP Deployments - Upgrades and iOS Updates
1. Upgrade Process
Once the upgrade has been scheduled for your environment:
- Your CSM will deploy a new application to your ABM, and the old application will be removed.
- The customer IT team is responsible for creating the environment-specific application and assigning it to the appropriate device groups.
For example, the DEV environment will always be the first to be upgraded. When a new application is deployed, only DEV devices should receive the update. This process will then be repeated for VAL and PROD environments.
2. iOS Updates
- Please consult with your CSM before applying any iOS updates to ensure compatibility with your current application. If you are upgrading only 1–2 times per year, this should not be an issue.
